Trying to do some fun things and fit it all in between work and school.  Thankfully I have only 12 weeks of school left.  I'm getting really antsy to finish!

WIP: Handspun scarf

I've been knitting a lot over the past few days.  I finished 2 gifts (photos coming soon) and started a project for myself tonight.  I'm loving mittens, scarves and cowls right now.  The instant gratification projects are really great.  I'm also trying to stash-bust and it's working. 

Tonight I started a scarf with my own handspun yarn.  This will be my first project made from yarn that I spun and I'm really loving the results so far.  I couldn't stop taking photos once I started.

 

Just a basic garter stitch (knitting every row) scarf.  I love garter stitch with handspun.  It really seems to show the handmade-ness of the yarn, if that makes sense.  Garter stitch is also really squishy and makes a soft fabric which is great for a scarf. 

I casted on 36 stitches with a size 8 needle.  I'm slipping the first stitch of every row knitwise so that I get a nice slipped-stitch edge.  I'm not quite sure how much yarn I have here so I'm just going to keep knitting and hope it's enough.     

 

I bought this BFL roving over 2 years ago and just spun it up a couple of months ago.  It's blue, white and brown.  It reminds me of a nest full of robin's eggs.  This is a 2-ply and it has a lot of thick and thin points.

I'm not sure what I'll do with any of it yet, but this is the first handspun that I've liked and kept around.  I'm finally starting to get the hang of it.

Eye Candy Friday

I did some spinning on my wheel on Tuesday night.  Since Starbucks was closed, the yarnies came over to my house.  Everyone had spinning on the brain I guess because there were like 4 or 5 wheels in this little space!

I spun up a couple of ounces of wool that I purchased last year.  The label wasn't specific, but it was nice to spin. 

I have another bobbin filled like this one too.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this as far as making a 2 ply or leaving it as singles. 

I still have to take some pictures of my wheel and share...maybe this weekend.  I've been using it a lot and getting more comfortable spinning which is great.  I did my first 2 ply the other night and it's hanging out on my niddy noddy waiting to be set.  I hope to have some time this weekend to do that and then I'll share.
