Random Snapshots

you've been forewarned of the shakedown...

We saw Death Cab for Cutie in concert (for the second time) last night and it was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and night.  The sun was really hot for the first few hours, but once it went down it was perfect.  They played at Marymoor Park which is a really great, intimate outdoor venue. 

We sat on the lawn, on our blanket eating snacks and drinking freshly made mango-lemonade.  

RaRaRiot opened up and they were really good.  I haven't listened to them much in the past, but I'll be downloading their latest album tonight.  As an added bonus, they are from Syracuse, NY or the 'Cuse as we say back home.  

Death Cab put on a great show as usual.  They are from right around here (Bellingham, WA) so I always like to think they play a little harder when their tour reaches "home."  :)  It was totally packed there.  We've seen one other show at Marymoor and we had a lot of room to spread out.  Last nights show was an added show because the Saturday night show sold out in minutes.

super loved it!

The NKOTB concert that is.  As we were walking out this is what my friend Kery said to me and I felt the same way -- we super loved it!!

 

I loved all the old stuff they played and even some of the new stuff.  They are still great dancers and overall put on a really high-energy show.  You could tell they were having fun up there.  The crowd was really involved which was fun.

You just can't beat the people watching at a show like this either!  Some of the outfits I just can't explain.  There were a lot of ladies looking for action.  :)

I would definitely see them again.  This show made up for not having a chance to see them when I was younger though.

I'm going to the NKOTB concert tonight!  I'm so excited I could scream!

 

I just picked up my ticket this morning and am sitting 12 rows back from the stage.  :)  My friend Kery already had a ticket 1 row behind me -- her husband surprised her with a ticket, but that meant she was going by herself.  I never pass up an opportunity to go to a concert so I was happy to see that good seats were still available this morning!  I'm hoping we can sit together when we get there.

Who was your favorite New Kid back in the day?

Mine was Donnie Wahlberg. 

Favorite song?  Probably Please Don't Go Girl or Step by Step.

My brother arrived on Saturday afternoon after a catastrophe of a flying experience and we started in on activities that night. 

Here's what we've done so far:

On Saturday night we went to the Seattle Sounders FC game.  The Sounders have been in Seattle for a few years, but this is their first year as a Major League Soccer team.  That's a pretty big deal for soccer fans and my brother and I are big soccer fans.  The game was a great time.  The stadium was packed and the crowd was pretty cool.  Seattle lost their starting goalie within the first 20 minutes of the game to a red card ejection and lost the game in the last 10 minutes 1-0.  Such is life with soccer games!  We had a good time either way though and I'm considering buying season tickets next year. 

 

 

 

The major downer of the game was that bottled Budweiser was $7.75 each!  I've never paid so much for shitty beer.  Needless to say we only had 1 each at the game.  I couldn't believe it when the guy told us the price!

 

After the game we met up with a few friends who were in a different section and headed over to Pyramid Ale House for more beer and food.  I had my favorite Apricot ale.  We had a lot of laughs and enjoyed catching up with a friend that we don't see nearly enough.

Sunday was Easter and we didn't do much besides eat and relax.  It was much needed!

Yesterday I worked during the day and the boys went to the gun range.  

 

After work we grabbed some dinner and headed into Seattle for a concert.  We saw Franz Ferdinand at the Moore Theatre.  The Moore is one of my favorite places to see a concert in Seattle.  It's an old theatre that is being preserved.  It's very small inside which makes for an intimate show and the architecture is gorgeous -- here a few shots I took on my phone:

 

 

 

The concert was good - the opening band sucked in my opinion, but I think that had almost everything to do with their lack of a good sound person.  FF was awesome and I'd definitely see them again.  They were better in concert than they are recorded in my opinion.  

We're not sure what the rest of the week will bring, but hopefully the weather will clear up for us.  I'm taking Wednesday through Friday off and my brother doesn't leave until Sunday so we have a lot of time to explore.

I like it all for the most part...except for country.  Sorry country fans.  I just can't get into it.

free and cheap mp3s

Did you know that Amazon.com has a lot of good free and cheap MP3s to download?  I didn't! 

I used Amazon for 90% of my Christmas shopping this year.  The site is easy to navigate, they have everything you could ever want, the prices are usually competitive and their customer service is excellent in my experience.

Anyways, I received an email the other day for $5 worth of free MP3s as a result of a >$25 purchase in the electronics department.  I sat down last night to check out their MP3 section, not expecting much.  I'm an iTunes junkie.  iTunes is easy, fast and I've never had any major issues. 

When I got to the Amazon site I noticed a lot of free MP3s for download (over 500) and a lot of really good prices on full albums -- much better than iTunes. 

The other great thing is that they have a MP3 downloader that you install and it loads the songs right into your iTunes.  Bonus!

They are also running an extra free song every day for the month of December.  It's all Christmas music.  I downloaded several songs last night.  And just like they said -- it was all imported right into my iTunes library without any hassle.  

I think I'll be using this more often.  In fact, I'm a little peeved that I paid $12 though iTunes for the Twilight Soundtrack and Amazon is selling it for $6.99.   Apparently they update the bestselling albums hourly and apply discounted prices.  I feel like I hit the music jackpot!

Random catch-up.

I never posted a review of the Foo Fighters concert that we went to a couple of weeks ago.

It was awesome!  More than awesome really.  Everything we expected and more.  Dave Grohl did Everlong acoustic.  I could have left after that part and been totally fine!  I love Dave Grohl.  He's hilarious and hot.  :)  There was actually a whole acoustic set in the middle of the show which was really good.  I love acoustic and was hoping they would slip that in somewhere.  They played for a long time - several hours.  All good stuff.  We can't wait to see them again.

The buttons are on the Hexacomb Cardigan now.  I just need to block it.  I'm not sure why the directions suggested to block it AFTER it was put together.  I think I'll use my steam iron and see how that turns out.  I'm currently plotting my next cast-on.  Something with one of these two yarns that arrived last week.

I scored a good sale at Little Knits thanks to a tip off from Lynne.  A bag (10 skeins) of each. 

I have a few ideas for projects...

We had a pretty nice weekend.  Relaxed, shopped, hung around the house.  Today we had lunch outside at the Ram in Kent Station.  It was such a gorgeous day out.  Perfect for eating outside.

We're going to see the Foo Fighters tonight at Key Arena.

I.CANNOT.WAIT!!!!!!

This is will be our first Foo concert, but I already know it's going to be amazing.  I'm officially in concert-mode.  Dave Grohl, here I come.  :)

My review of last Friday night's concert is simple.

IT.WAS.AMAZING. :)

I brought my point & shoot and got a lot of blurry photos!  More grainy than blurry actually, but I'm glad I made Adam sneak it in.

The Dalai Lama interview was a little difficult to hear, but other than that it was great.  I didn't realize that he was being interviewed by Ann Curry AND Dave Matthews.  It was pretty cool.  Dave Matthews was VERY nervous about the interview.  You could see him sweating on the big screen and he couldn't stop rocking back and forth in his chair.  It was pretty funny actually!  I like a lot of the stuff that the Dalai Lama was saying and probably will read up more on him.  I don't always feel like his principles are "liveable," but I don't discount them at all. 

There was a surprise opener too - Death Cab for Cutie.  They are from Seattle and played a 6 or 7 song acoustic set.  They were really good and I'm glad I was able to see them live.  I love surprises like that!

I can't describe how good the Dave/Tim acoustic set was.  Seeing Tim Reynolds live is an experience.  He's amazing - a true master of the guitar.  And Dave Matthews - well, I don't need to tell you how I feel about him.  The acoustic set was a treat.  He talks throughout and I really enjoyed that part.  He lives in Seattle and I believe that made this whole Seeds of Compassion show more special.
