    A couple of good reads

I've been catching up on my James Patterson reading over the last 2 months.  JP is one of my favorite authors and before school I would devour each and every one of his new books in a few nights flat.  Lately though it's taken me a little bit to catch up.  It certainly doesn't help that he releases a new book every other month.  The guy is a machine!

So I've read his last 3 books and I wanted to share them here because they were all great.  If you're into suspense/thrillers/crime fiction - you will probably love JP.  I love his style of writing.  His chapters are never more than 3 or 4 pages long and I love that.

    The Quickie

    Quick

I finished this one yesterday at lunch.  The night I started reading it, I couldn't stop.  I read 200 pages the first night because it was so intense.  This is probably my favorite JP book (I've read them all so far).  It's a crime fiction and really full of suspense.  It's a quick read and I guarantee you'll have a hard time putting it down.

    The 6th Target

    6

This one is the 6th in a series called the Women's Murder Series.  It's not my favorite from the series, but it was good and worth the read.  The series itself is really good - it has a great storyline about 4 best girlfriends who are on various sides of law enforcement.  It follows each of their stories, but is mainly based around the detective.  I really like crime fiction series and I was glad when JP came out with this one.  They're all numbered so it's easy to figure out the order if you want to start the series.

    Cross

    Cross

I read this one several months back, but it was great and worth the mention.  This is actually book 12 in the Alex Cross series.  This series has been around a while and it's really good.  Every ending keeps you waiting for the next book.  This particular series is really popular and it's been around for a while.  One of the books in the series called Kiss the Girls is the book that the move Kiss the Girls was based on.  I would definitely start this series from the beginning if you like crime fiction.  You will be hooked.

And with that I'm going to take a little reading break for the next few weeks to catch up on knitting, crocheting and scrapbooking.  Of course JP has 2 new books coming out soon - one in September and one in November.  I will be ready for the book in September for sure.

    Have a great weekend!   :)

    Farmer's Market Love

Yesterday (Saturday) morning we got up and went to the Farmer's Market in the next town over.  I've been wanting to go for a few weeks now, but we usually reserve our weekend mornings for sleeping in late unless we have something planned.  Really late...like teenager late.  (Yes, Denise, I know that the early bird gets the worm!)

Anyways, we got up and decided to head over there.  It was smaller than I thought it would be with just a few booths, but we did score some a couple of good things.  We bought these organic cherries that have to be the biggest cherries I've ever seen.  Of course they cost an arm and a leg because they were organic (I still don't understand that, but whatever!).  The good news is that they're the best cherries we've ever tasted and we'll be going back next week for more.  I cannot stop eating them!  We also bought some delicious nectarines, but the cherries are getting the love in this post.

The other thing we bought was a beautiful bunch of flowers.  You can go to any market in and around Seattle and find the most beautiful flowers you've ever seen.  I buy a bunch every time we're at a market (which isn't very often) and I always take a photo.  These ones really match our newly painted rooms and furniture.

After walking around we headed to the next block over which has a great outdoor mall/square type of place.  They have fountains, cobblestone walks and a big outdoor fireplace.  We tried a new restaurant for lunch that was amazing and then I hit Ann Taylor for some amazing deals.  It was definitely a great Saturday!

Today after grocery shopping we came home to a house without power.  I still don't have any idea why it went out on this beautiful, sunny day.  Since I am an online student I started to freak a bit because I usually reserve Sundays for homework.  I decided that if it didn't come on by 4pm then I would head over to Starbucks and write my paper there.  Thankfully it came on around 3:30pm and I was able to get my work finished.  We're pretty tech-addicted here and always dread the power outages.

During the outage I decided to start reading a new book that a friend let me borrow.  Once I started, I could not put it down.  In a couple hours flat I made it half way through the book and I'll probably read until I fall asleep tonight.  It is so good that I feel confident in recommending it just half way through.

    Glass

It is a memoir of the author's life and it's hard to put down.  The part that I've read so far is about her childhood and it's almost unbelievable.  It makes me cringe to read about the things this woman endured.  I am very anxious to finish and hope that the next couple of days bring me some reading time.

That's all I've got for tonight.  I'm off to go watch Entourage and Flight of the Conchords (funniest show ever made) with the boy.  Enjoy your week!

    Good, quick summer read

I had been on a reading hiatus for a few months which is so unlike me.  I love reading.  Love it, love it, love it.  Always have.

My problem is that with full time work and full time school I am left with very little spare time.  (And I have to say that the only reason I even have ANY spare time at all is because I have a really great husband who does about 95% of the chores since I've been in school.  He really keeps our condo from falling down around us and I love him for that.)

Anyways, snce I have about 2039483209482 different hobbies...this really poses a problem for me.  See?  But, I also have the worst obsessive personality so it kind of works out in the end.

I knit obsessively for a month and don't do anything else.  Then I read obsessively for a month and don't do anything else.  And so on and so forth.  It's a sickness, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

The point of this post is that I just read a great, funny book in only a couple of sittings and I wanted to share.  I know that readers are always looking for quick, summer/beach reads.  My office happens to be across the street from the library so I usually walk over there during my 30 minute lunch and read or knit.

There's a (slight) chance I might be going to to hell - Laurie Notaro

Funny, funny, funny.  Give it a shot.  :)

Starting a new class tonight so I must go finish some reading.

    Have a great week!
